The Personal Story

Mary Lynne and I met in college, and
we were married on campus in 1988.

I am a native Texan, born in Houston and raised in Sugar Land, Texas. I attended St. Thomas More Catholic grade school and then Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston, before leaving to study philosophy at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, where I met my wife Mary Lynne Gasaway Hill. During college, I spent two summers doing health care field work as a volunteer for Amigos de las America, in Mexico and Costa Rica respectively. After graduation, Mary Lynne and I were married on campus in Assumption Chapel in January of 1988.

We then spent some time in graduate studies in the 1990's
before returning to work at St. Mary's University.

We then spent a lot of time in graduate studies, with me in law school at Loyola (Doctor of Jurisprudence, 1998) and
Mary Lynne earning her doctorate from Tulane (Doctor of Philosophy, 1999).

Mary Lynne gave birth to this little one in September of 2005.

We returned to St. Mary's University, in fact, we baptized our only child on Easter Day in 2006 back in the same chapel in which we had been married eighteen years earlier.

We moved the family to Ballycastle, Northern Ireland in 2010.

We were at St. Mary's University for many happy years, but I began graduate studies in Ireland and in 2010 we moved to Ballycastle, Northern Ireland. There we spent a year in residence at the Corrymeela Peace & Reconciliation Centre as volunteers. We continue an on-going relationship with the Corrymeela Community to this day.

Today, we are back in San Antonio with Mary Lynne home at St. Mary's University,
and I am taching philosophy at St. Philip's College.

Home, Sweet Home!
Today, I am a Professor of Philosophy at St. Philip's College in San Antonio and a Fellow of the San Antonio Peace Center and a long-time volunteer at the Corrymeela Peace Centre in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland. Mary Lynne is a Professor of English Literature and Language, the Inaugural Edward & Linda Speed Peace and Justice Fellow at St. Mary's University, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
