Assistant Director, 2006 - 2008

In 2006, I was hired to serve as the Assistant Director of the Institute for Religious and Pastoral Studies at the University of Dallas.

The Director, Dr. Brian Schmisek, had an ambitious agenda to re-found the twenty-year-old Institute Institute as a graduate school within the University. This major expansion involved hiring new faculty and staff, developing new programs, and making significant changes to our structure and governance.

In my role, I was responsible for a wide range of issues, including the enrollment management (e.g. admission & scholarships) and for handling student affairs issues for the School (e.g. students with disabilities).  My purview also included marketing, as we expanded the previous newsletter into a full-fledged magazine for the new School, called Adventus, for which I was the first editor.

In 2007, I helped organize the first University of Dallas Ministry Conference (UDMC).

The new School of Ministry hosted local, regional and national leaders in the Catholic Church at its first Ministry Conference on Sept. 6-8, 2007, in Dallas, Texas. Under the theme “Walking Together in Faith,” the conference featured keynote addresses, breakout sessions in English and Spanish, networking opportunities and a special clergy day. Keynote addresses and major presentations featured the Most Rev. Ricardo Ramirez, Rev. Ronald Rolheiser and Steven Ellair.
“We are excited to host this conference to help meet the diverse needs of ministries in the Church at all levels,” said Brian Schmisek, Director of the School of Ministry. “By coming together we can deepen and develop our relationship with God and our respect for the variety of ways we respond in faith.”

The School of Ministry of the University of Dallas

The School of Ministry is a graduate school of theological studies and pastoral ministry within the University of Dallas, an accredited, Roman Catholic university in Texas.

The School of Ministry meets the educational needs of the Church through five strategic areas of focus: its flagship master's degree programs; Catholic Biblical School, deacon formation programs and adult faith formation programs at the parish level; an annual ministry conference; and a unique Rome Study Abroad program. The School of Ministry offers five master's degree programs: theological studies, Catholic school leadership, Catholic school teaching, religious education and pastoral ministry. The Master of Pastoral Ministry degree program offers six concentrations: campus ministry, family ministry, healthcare ministries, Hispanic ministry, pastoral life and administration and youth ministry.

By the end of 2007, we had completely re-organized into the new School of Ministry.

In 2007, we also began the University of Dallas Ministry Conference, which has now become the largest event in the history of the University and the Diocese of Dallas.

The University is committed to expanding the School of Ministry's domestic and international programs with high-quality, innovative new academic programs that meet the developing needs of an increasingly diverse Catholic clergy, deacons and lay persons.  The School of Ministry is widely recognized as an important center for learning theology, developing pastoral skills and fostering spiritual growth.
