In the summer of 2015, faculty from St. Philip's College and Northwest Vista College led a summer study abroad trip to Northern Ireland, and stayed at the world famous Corrymeela Ballycastle Centre, the oldest and largest peace center in Northern Ireland.

I am part of the team that is developing and implementing the Quality Enhancement Plan or QEP, which is a multi-year project to improve an important aspect of student learning through broad-based involvement and is a requirement of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
For the next five years, St. Philip's College will focus on Ethical Decision–Making. The topic was chosen by St. Philip’s College constituents: students, faculty, staff, administrators and external advisory committee members as each of these groups gave input to our selected topic. The QEP is a major campus initiative, and has the full support of our President, Dr. Adena Williams Loston. |
I have integrated into my courses the Exploring Humanitarian Law Program (EHL) developed by the International Committee of the Red Cross. The program is described this way:
"The programme is, above all, aiming to deal with ethical and humanitarian issues arising in armed conflicts, and the main education objectives are to develop awareness of the necessity of existence of humanitarian norms, to understand different perspectives and to encourage interest and the feeling of responsibility for local and international events." My work at St. Philip's College is based on my previous experiences teaching EHL at Northwest Vista College. |
