Service Learning Presentations

Service Learning Presentations

Based on my previous experience as Director of Service Learning at St. Mary's University, Migdalia Garcia asked me to join her for a joint presentation to the faculty of Northeast Lakeview College at the start of the academic year.  We had a small turnout, but a great conversation!  This was part of the Service Learning Workshop held at Northeast Lakeview College, August 23, 2012.

Presenter.  The Service Learning Faculty Fellows Program, which is a two-week intensive training for faculty offered at Our Lady of the Lake University.  San Antonio, Texas, May 19, 2006.

Co-Presenter.  On a panel titled “Best Practices in Service Learning,” at the College & Community Mini-Conference: Partners in Service, sponsored by the Service-Learning Intercollegiate Collaborative.  San Antonio, Texas, May 20, 2005.

Keynote Speaker.  Service Learning Faculty Luncheon, sponsored by the Center for Civic Engagement at The University of Texas at El Paso.  The topic was how to engage faculty and students in the community through community-based teaching and learning in order to enhance student learning and promote civic engagement.  El Paso, Texas, April 27, 2005.

Co-Presenter.  On a panel titled “A Model of Community Efforts,” at the Closing the Gaps: 21st Annual Recruitment and Retention Conference, sponsored by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.  The topic was how universities could build a greater sense of civic engagement by establishing programs with community partners.  Austin, Texas, June 22, 2005.

Co-Presenter.  On a panel titled “Service Learning and Study Abroad” at the Conference on International Education Exchange.  The presentation addressed the need for service learning to stress academic content in international programs.  Santa Fe, New Mexico, November 12, 2004.

Co-Presenter.  “Service Learning and Study Abroad” with Dr. Michael Woolf, President, Foundation for International Education, at the joint conference of the National Society for Experiential Education and the International Consortium for Experiential Learning.  Miami, Florida, October 1, 2004.
