Lecture: Korey Dyck
15 January 2009
Trinity College Dublin

A Student Seminar Presentation:   Thursday 15th Jan. 2009, 3.30-5pm, ISE Dublin, Lecture Room on middle floor.  Korey Dyck: "Converging the Practice of Interfaith Dialogue for Peacebuilding in Deeply Divided Societies."

Research topic : “Foundations for Dialogue: The Converging Practice of Interreligious Dialogue for Peacebuilding in Deeply Divided Societies” The key research question that defines the thesis is whether Interreligious Dialogue for Peacebuilding (IDP) can be identified as a novel, distinct and legitimate method of conflict intervention.

The basis of this exploration is the unexamined practices of IDP as faith-based peacebuilding, housed within the ‘religion and conflict resolution’ field of study.  A case study approach will ‘map’ the unique practices of IDP in use and which have documented impact.  The principal goal is to isolate features that are common to all case studies for the purposes of articulating a coherent theoretical framework that can be appropriated in any context.

Conference: Being the Other
12 - 14 April 2011
Armagh, Northern Ireland

Picture
"I am pleased to commend the sixth paper in the Irish Peace Centres’ Experiential Learning series which returns to the issues of faith and conflict. The paper contains the transaction of an IPC theological students conference held earlier this year under the title of “Being the Other” and seeks to capture and share the learning.

The conference recognised that many faith groups, and other community interest groups, speak of “welcoming the other”. While this is a good starting point the conference acknowledged that in order to move forward groups must make the journey from a sense of being the host, which carries connotations of power, to a discussion on how they would act when they are in the minority. The contributions in the paper explore aspects of what it means to be “other” and how religious texts speak to this experience, from a variety of disciplines e.g. biblical exegesis, philosophical speculation, linguistic analysis and personal story."
